It would be a great time to book your whitetail hunt for the first weekend of rifle season…we’re noticing pre-rut acitivity and still have openings for opening weekend of November 7!

Our area has been blessed with plenty of summer rain and the horns are looking good…..

Just got back from Colorado elk hunting…..

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

We just got back from elk hunting with a group of friends from Denver.  What an awesome time…but a hard, hard hunt.   Colorado has real mountains…not like Texas!  Those mountains…well, words just can’t describe their beauty and ruggedness.  Allen ended up harvesting a cow elk from 550 yards and then found a 5 x 5 skull while packing the cow elk off the mountain.  It will make an awesome mount and I have just the right place in our bedroom!  Randy and Boots both harvested nice cows but we couldn’t find their bull after hours and hours of searching…just one spot of blood and tiny piece of bone…Dick didn’t get a shot but he still has till the end of the year.  Randy and Boots~send me copies of your pics so I can post them!

I made it only two days on the 6 day hunt.  While the guys were toughing it out in the mountains, I stayed at a wonderful log cabin on the Colorado River called Ruby River Ranch.  What great people they are and what a beautiful place they have!  First class accommodations…beautiful scenery with the river running right by the front porch.  I watched mallard ducks feeding for hours while the beautiful gold aspen tree leaves floated down from the sky.  Wow…it was wonderful and relaxing.

But~~we’re glad to be back and now it’s time to catch up with everything.  As usual, we hit the ground running with 8 guys in camp when we drove into the driveway.  We just love it when our hunters become our friends…we are certainly blessed with great friends!

I just posted pics of the guys on our picture page so check it out…Some really nice hogs and rams were harvested.         http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2042865

Here’s few pics of the the Colorado elk hunt.  I’ll be posting a few videos (maybe) on our website.  Like I said, the mountains are just magnificent and I want to share the pics!
